The Terpsichore Dance Theatre

The Terpsichore Dance Theatre was founded in 1991 by the dancer and choreographer Pernille Overø.
The language of the dance and music of Terpsichore is inspired by ethnic music and dance stiles. We see the dance and music as storytelling, and linked with the ritual.
All performances are created through improvisations guided by the Direction, leading to composed and choreographed pieces. In the final performance we still create space for a dialogue between the music and the dance.

Participation in International festivals, 
tours and other activities:

• In 2002 we did a new performance in the same context as Vandværk/Waters(2000), now with the earth as our theme. In the same time the performance was making the frame of a "culture-meeting" with other artist in the counsel of Århus! Apart from that it marked our 10 years anniversary in may 2003.

• In march 2002 we were touring Greenland with the performance WHIRL, and performed with several school concerts presenting indian/asian dance, african dance as well as whirling!

• In 2001 Pernille Overø was studying in California (Anna and Daria Halprin at the TAMALPA institute), and after coming home she started the concept with "Sans og Dans" / "Sensing and dancing". (After completion of her education in California, Pernille Overø, in 2003, started the company called WORLDDANCE

• In August 2000 we made the performance WATERS, with a dancer, a musician, a photographer and a light designer.

• In March 2000 we participated in The First Sufi Soul World Music Festival in Lahore, Pakistan, with the performance WHIRL. The tour was sponsored by The Danish Ministry of Culture, Danish worldmusic association, Aarhus kommune and Danish Artist Federation.

• At the StageArt Festival in Århus in November 1998 Terpsichore had the opening night with the new performance BETWEEN SPACE at an art gallery.

• In may 98 we had the first night of the outdoor show with spinning dance surrounded by fire. The show was created after a study of sufidance in Cairo. The musicians and the dancer worked further on developing the music and the dance. The performance is now known as: WHIRL.

• In November 97 we participated in The Second International Theatre and Dance Festival in Lahore, Pakistan, with THE EARTH IS MY MOTHER. The tour was sponsored by The Danish Ministry of Culture, and included performances in villages around Lahore.

• During the summer 96,97 and 98 we toured in Denmark with the outdoor performance THE EARTH IS MY MOTHER.

• In march 96 we performed THE HOLY WEDDING at The First International Drama Festival in Lahore, Pakistan, and participated in Copenhagen Cultural Capital of Europe 96, with THE HOLY WEDDING as a church performance.

• In 1994 Pernille Overø was invited to dance in the performance "El Siempre Abrazo" directed by Beatriz Camargo - Teatro Itenerante del Sol, in Colombia.

• Since 1993 Terpsichore has created dance and music pieces for special events for example dance for the opening night of Copenhagen Cultural City 96, in a church at the midnight mess new years eve, which was transmitted live on the Danish Television, final performance for the International Woman Theatre Festival in Aarhus, performances in churches during mess, dance to festivals with special themes e.t.c.

• Study trips to India, Egypt, Tanzania, Chech Republic, Kurdistan, where the members of the group have made intensive studies in classical Indian dance, sufidance, African music and dance, gypsy song and oriental percussion.
